Cambridge International IGCSE Religious Studies

Cambridge International IGCSE Religious Studies (0490) encourages learners to develop an informed understanding of religion and its influence on individuals, communities and societies. The course explores religious beliefs, teachings and practices while encouraging students to consider moral, ethical and philosophical questions from different perspectives.

Learners study two major world religions, chosen from Christianity, Islam and Judaism, examining topics such as worship, beliefs and sacred writings, festivals, rites of passage, family life and religion’s role in society. The course develops the ability to interpret religious teachings, evaluate different viewpoints and construct well-reasoned arguments supported by evidence.

This qualification develops critical thinking, analytical and communication skills while encouraging respect for different beliefs and cultures. It provides an excellent foundation for further study in Religious Studies, Philosophy, History and other humanities subjects, while helping learners understand the role of religion in today’s world.
