Cambridge International IGCSE Mathematics (0580 & 0980) develops learners’ mathematical knowledge, confidence and problem-solving abilities, providing a strong foundation for further study and everyday life. The course encourages logical thinking and equips students with the skills needed to solve mathematical problems accurately and efficiently.
Learners study a broad range of topics including number, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, coordinate geometry, mensuration, probability, statistics and functions. Throughout the course, students learn to apply mathematical techniques to real-life situations, interpret data, construct logical arguments and communicate their reasoning clearly. The qualification is available at both Core and Extended levels, allowing learners to study at the level most appropriate to their ability.
This qualification provides an excellent foundation for further study, including Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics and other STEM-related subjects. The 0580 and 0980 syllabuses cover the same content and assessments, with the main difference being the grading scale used in different administrative zones. From 2025 onwards, one paper at each tier is a dedicated non-calculator paper, reflecting recent syllabus updates.
