Cambridge International IGCSE Islamiyat

Cambridge International IGCSE Islamiyat (0493) helps learners develop a thorough understanding of the beliefs, practices and historical foundations of Islam. The course explores the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the Qur’an, the Hadith, the early Islamic community and the core principles that continue to shape the lives of Muslims around the world.

Learners study key topics including the major beliefs of Islam, the Five Pillars, the Articles of Faith, the Rightly Guided Caliphs and the development of the early Muslim community. The course encourages students to interpret religious texts, evaluate historical events and understand the significance of Islamic teachings in both historical and modern contexts.

This qualification develops critical thinking, analytical and evaluative skills while fostering a deeper understanding of Islamic faith, history and culture. It provides an excellent foundation for further study in religious studies, history and related subjects. The syllabus is studied in English, although some familiarity with passages from the Qur’an and Hadith in Arabic is assumed.
